I don't see that at all, what's fun isn't the !!FUN!! of DF, though that can be amusing at times, it's either fortress ending or trivial. You can customize the treatment you give prisoners by selecting them. But you will also run into raiders you can capture or kill, captured raiders requiring seperated, doored sleeping areas. Unless you freeze your food and medicine, it will spoil or degrade.įrom there on you can research technology to grow plants indoors, build indoor hydroponics, etcetra. You can customize stockpiles to only contain certain things, which you can do with a stockpile inside your freezer. If you have the technology (by default, you do) you can start building solar panels and wind turbines, which can provide lights to keep people sane in indoor areas, cooling to regulate temperature, and furthermost, using those same regulators to build a freezer for your food. Optionally, this would be a good time to go into the colonists screen and optimize tasks, hovering over one shows its profiency in an area, it's useful to have a dedicated hauler sometimes but every colonist has its needs. You must place crop fields to grow crops. Once an area is sealed a roof will be built over exposed areas. You can either build walled outdoor compounds, burrow into rock, or both. You must build an indoor dormitory or individual bedrooms for your colonists, or else they will psychologically disintegrate.
Priority one is comfortable shelter and food. Your colonists will carry it to your stockpile. Your spaceship crashed and left a lot of metal around, in order to collect it you have to select large parts of the screen which, unless it hits an animal will select resources. Create a stockpile using the tool and zoom out. Metal is the ideal starting material, there's a lot around the map. I started with the first alphas where the systems were a lot less complicated compared to where they are now but the fundamental basics were the same - treat it like an RTS like StarCraft with the exception that 95% of what your colonists will do is automated, or following set orders.Įdit: most actions, like mining are done through designating patches to be mined out. Which is good enough for a tutorial, but it's not the Rimworld experience of screaming while everything is on fire.
You can play with the pacifist storyteller which prevents hostiles.
